Description: The Moscow pursuit sequence is without a doubt the major action set piece of the film, if not amongst the best action sequences in the entire Bourne franchise. The sequence present changing action forms as it develops from a capture scenario, then into an escape, then finally shifts into a pursuit scenario. Notably, the chase component of the sequence itself evolves due to changes in its mode of pursuit. After Kirill, a Russian agent, shoots Bourne in the shoulder, and is released by Moscow police who temporarily apprehend him, Kirill runs after Bourne, commencing the pursuit with a foot chase [Figure 1]. As Bourne escapes on foot from Kirill and the omnipresent police, he then commandeers a taxi, motivating Kirill to expropriate an SUV, shifting the pursuit into an automotive chase [Figure 2]. The chase soon develops into a multi-car pursuit with different sets of pursuing vehicles. Kirill opts to take an alternate route in an effort to eventually intercept Bourne, which he does by ramming into Bourne’s taxi [Figure 3]. Bourne manages to maintain control of his vehicle and then heads into a tunnel, taking the pursuit into its climactic phase, as Kirill pursues and starts firing his pistol at Bourne. Demonstrating his superior driving skills, Bourne executes a U-turn around Kirill’s SUV and commences to fire at its tires. Assuming ascendancy, Bourne spin his taxi once again such that he positions it on the side of the SUV to slam the vehicle into a concrete barrier, seriously injuring Kirill in the process [Figure 4].
